To the Twenty-First Century

By the late 1990s, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Represented approximately 30 million Americans. Asian Americans have not found assimilation easy. In 1991, Bush replaced Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall with Clarence Thomas. The women who accused Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment was Anite Hall. No economic issue had more political impact by 1992 than the widespread belief in the decline of the middle class. The most controversial proposal of Bill Clinton's administration was the prorosal to end discrimination against gays in the military. The consumer advocate who ran for president in 2000 with the Green Party was Ralph Nadar. Kenneth Starr was the special prosecuter appointed to investigate Whitewater and the Lewinsky scandal. The leading Republican proponent of the Contract with America was Newt Gingrich.
